Anyone who has spent any time in California’s High Sierra range knows
the grip it can have on you. Once you hear the call of the High Country
you can’t ignore it. We are no different. The last Saturday in
April can’t come soon enough, and season’s end in the fall leaves
us with a heartache I’m sure avid sports fans can understand when
their season ends.
High Country Trout Anglers was born from the love we feel for
trout fishing, and in particular in the Eastern Sierra, from
the shadow of Mountain Whitney in the south to the whitewater
of Walker River to the north. Founder Ernie Cowan has been a
professional photographer and an outdoor writer since 1989,
covering the fishing activity and interesting people of the
Eastern Sierra. His frustration at not being able to find a
comprehensive online site for current fishing information is
what resulted in creation of High Country Trout.
Partner Katalin Stark is a Canadian native who has adopted the
High Sierras as her new love. In addition to her passion for
the high country and trout fishing, she revels in nature, is
a talented photographic artist and travel expert. Her woman’s
view will add a delightful perspective to the online pages of
HCTA.
You may have noticed on our home page our
slogan: "Good Fishing Starts Here!" Our goal is to build HCTrout.com
into your first stop whenever you are planning to head for
High Country Waters. Like most anglers, we love to catch
the big fish now and then, but our real passion is the
remote corners of the Eastern Sierra where you might spend
days fishing and not see another soul. With bubble and fly,
or a fly rod you might haul in and release 40 or 50 fish in
a day. If you have never experienced this joy, we will provide
you with information on where and how to do it.
We also want your feedback. If we know what information
you want we will strive to provide it. Accuracy, timeliness,
information and fun are what we want to give you when you
visit our pages. |
